Asterion

Asterion is a website with a database behind it. It shows the work of the Miadi factory: the goals people and agents are working toward, the things that happened, and the lines of story that connect them.

It does not make up its own records. It keeps copies of records that live somewhere else, and every copy says where it came from.

Where it lives

One app, three addresses

  • The code is in miadisabelle/asterion. The app is in app/, a Next.js site on a Postgres database.
  • The package @miadi/asterion on npm holds its types, so other code can read Asterion's records with the same shapes.
  • It was born in this repository as packages/asterion and moved to its own home.

Three sources feed Asterion. Asterion never writes back to a source. A change to a circle happens in Miadi, and the next pass carries it in.
What you can look at

The pages Asterion serves

/tensionsCharts. Each one says where things are now, what should exist, and the steps between.
/threadsLines of story you can follow from the start to the end.
/eventsA log that only grows. Every thing that happened, in the order it happened.
/graphThings and the connections between them.
/bridgeWhere the charts come from, shown live as they arrive.
/layers ยท /projects ยท /docsThe factory's layers, projects that span repositories, and Asterion's own docs.
/feedAn RSS feed for each of the three addresses.

What is inside today

135
charts
3
threads
2
projects
0
circles

A private project is shown only to a signed-in writer, so these are the numbers anyone can see. There are 17 threads in all, and 3 of them are public. No circle is in yet: that waits for the people in it to say yes (miadisabelle/asterion#11).

Issues

Where this is discussed

  • miadisabelle/asterion#12The layers and docs proposal. Every segment below is one of its sub-issues.
  • miadisabelle/asterion#17What Asterion's own /docs should say about the running product (DP1 to DP9). It is empty on every deployment today.
  • miadisabelle/asterion#19Where Asterion's layers and docs land in jgwill/Miadi when Asterion is absorbed.
  • miadisabelle/asterion#20What a thread is, revised 2026-10-07: the concern definition (D12), six states (D13, D17), the type names the keeper (D16). Q3 open.
  • miadisabelle/asterion#21The recommendation behind D12 and D13: a thread is a concern a reader follows. Taken 2026-10-07.
  • miadisabelle/asterion#22A ceremony is a room whose turns form a discussion (D14, taken 2026-10-07). Q8, the room's table name, open.

The issues below are proposed. None of them exists yet. Each one is a discussion this guide needs, written so it can be filed as it stands.

Asterion's docs have one home before the absorption

Asterion's own /docs is empty and its pages are proposed as Markdown files in that repository, while jgwill/Miadi now has /docs/asterion as pages of its own. Two homes for the same docs will drift. The issue decides which one is written to, and how the other points at it.

ProposedPI3in jgwill/Miadi
The docs name the five things the factory calls a thread

"Thread" named five things across the factory (F32). D11 keeps the word for the narrative thread, and the threads page lists the other four names. The issue asks every other docs page to use them, so a reader meets one word for one thing.

ProposedPI4in jgwill/Miadi
Miadi's own issue charts reach Asterion as a private project

jgwill/Miadi writes one chart per issue through coaia-narrative's writer, and it is the one chart memory not connected to Asterion, because the repository is private and Asterion serves three public sites (F27). Asterion now registers private projects that only signed-in writers see.
